Have you been to Songkhla?

I used to call the province of Songkhla home for several years, well its largest city Hat Yai. It is one of the provinces in south Thailand, near the Malaysian border. Its capital city is also called Songkhla (originally Singora, which means city of lions in Malay). It is less than an hour drive from Hat Yai, where an international airport is located. Beaches are found in Songkhla.

Hat Yai has no beach at all, but the city has its own perks. I will talk about it in another post. The most famous beach in Songkhla is Samila with its laid-back vibe, white sand, and Golden Mermaid Statue. It is a great place to have a picnic, unwind, and have fun.

There are many things you can do in Samila. You can swim, ride horses, fly a kite, paint ceramics, ride a banana boat, play volleyball, go wind surfing, and eat on the beach or in the cafes and restaurants nearby. The beach is free to the public so you do not need to pay to have a picnic. You can bring your own food.

One of the hotels near Samila Beach is BP Samila Beach Hotel and Resort. It was where we stayed when we made a quick stop in Songkhla after our beach wedding in Koh Lipe. Our room was spacious for two people and had a bathtub. Wifi was good and our booking came with free breakfast. If you like seeing the sunrise, staying in BP Samila is a great choice. Do not also miss going to the beach early morning and be amused by the sight of cows doing their morning walk.
