A Day and Night in Ayutthaya
The historic city of Ayutthaya was the second capital of the Kingdom of Siam after Sukothai. I first visited it in October 2009 with friends and colleagues. It was only a day trip. We did not stay for the night since the city was not that far from Bangkok. We rented a van and it took us a little over an hour to reach Ayutthaya Historical Park.
Unfortunately, we were not able to explore all the temple ruins because some of them were not open anymore when we arrived. It was a memorable trip nonetheless. We went inside those that were still open and took pictures. I also climbed one ancient temple and later had fun posing with elephants in the park.
It took me more than eleven years to visit Ayutthaya again. My husband and I together with our little daughter decided to do a side trip to this ancient city last April 2021 before going to the beach in Rayong. We drove around then stopped and walked to explore the ruins and take pictures. We then stayed overnight at Classic Kameo Hotel and Serviced Apartments, which was about 10-minute drive from the park. The hotel lobby was spacious and the staff were warm and friendly.
Our room had one bedroom, a small kitchen and dining area, as well as a living room with balcony overlooking the swimming pool. There was a TV in the living room and another one in the bedroom. The bathroom was bigger than usual and had a bathtub. The room had all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay.
Our booking included free breakfast. Tapestry, the hotel’s restaurant was lovely and spacious. Breakfast was good. There were ample choices of food. Outside the restaurant was a café called Café Kantary where I bought a macaron for my daughter. She loved it. The café was located on the first floor just right before the door leading to the elevator that took us to our floor.
Due to the ongoing health crisis caused by covid-19, hotel guests were asked to observe social distancing and to wear masks in public spaces inside and outside the hotel. Body temperature was also checked before entering Tapestry and disposable kitchen gloves were provided.
Meanwhile, one of the factors in choosing an accommodation for our trips is if there is a swimming pool or not. Classic Kameo has a big pool for older kids and adults and a small pool for younger kids. Unfortunately, we were tired after exploring the historical park. We just stayed in the room after dinner. Glad the bathtub was enough for our daughter. We did not have time to swim the following day after breakfast too. Perhaps we can finally swim next time we will be in Ayutthaya again.
